Accountant

ROLE SUMMARY

The accountant is responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of Finesse Capital, ensuring accurate record-keeping, regulatory compliance, and timely financial reporting. This role supports the Head of Finance in maintaining the integrity of the company's financial systems, preparing management and statutory reports, and ensuring adherence to IFRS, tax laws, and CBN guidelines. The accountant plays a critical role in safeguarding the company's financial assets and supporting strategic decision-making through accurate financial analysis and insights.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Record-Keeping & Bookkeeping

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger accounts.
  • Record all financial transactions (income, expenses, assets, liabilities, and equity) in the accounting system.
  • Ensure proper documentation and authorization for all entries.
  • Post journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and adjustments as required.
  • Maintain fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.

Bank Reconciliations & Cash Management

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all company accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciling items promptly.
  • Monitor daily cash positions and prepare cash flow reports.
  • Manage petty cash and ensure proper documentation and reconciliation.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Process vendor invoices, staff reimbursements, and expense claims.
  • Ensure timely payment of suppliers and vendors.
  • Issue client invoices and monitor accounts receivable aging.
  • Follow up on overdue receivables and manage collections.
  • Maintain accurate records of creditors and debtors.

Statutory & Tax Compliance

  • Prepare and remit PAYE, WHT, VAT, and other statutory deductions.
  • Ensure timely filing of all tax returns with FIRS and other regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain accurate records of tax computations and remittances.
  • Liaise with tax consultants and external auditors on tax matters.
  • Stay updated on changes to tax laws and ensure compliance.

Payroll Processing

  • Prepare monthly staff payroll, including salary computations, bonuses, and deductions.
  • Ensure accurate calculation of PAYE, pension, and other statutory deductions.
  • Process monthly salary payments via bank transfer.
  • Maintain employee payroll records and respond to staff payroll queries.

Financial Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement).
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in compliance with IFRS.
  • Prepare budget variance analyses and provide commentary on financial performance.
  • Support the preparation of board reports and management presentations.
  • Prepare financial statements for external audit and regulatory submissions.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and procedures.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of internal control systems.
  • Assist in internal and external audit processes, providing necessary documentation.
  • Ensure proper segregation of duties and authorization workflows.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend control improvements.

Budgeting & Financial Planning

  • Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
  • Monitor budget implementation and prepare variance analyses.
  • Provide financial projections and scenario analyses as required.
  • Assist in capital planning and investment decisions.

Audit Coordination

  • Prepare audit schedules and support external auditors during statutory audits.
  • Ensure timely resolution of audit queries and implementation of recommendations.
  • Maintain a comprehensive audit trail and supporting documentation.
  • Assist in internal audit reviews as required.

Regulatory Reporting

  • Prepare and submit regulatory returns to CBN, NDIC, SEC, and other regulators as required.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all regulatory filings.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes affecting financial reporting and compliance.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • A master's degree (MBA, MSc Finance) is an added advantage.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within financial services, banking, asset management, or a regulated environment.
  • Experience with IFRS, tax compliance, and financial reporting
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software (Sage, QuickBooks, ERP, etc.) and advanced MS Excel.
  • Exposure to CBN and SEC regulatory reporting is highly desirable.
